“We chose Ulster County for its beauty and proximity to NYC,” Amanda Sherwin comments about her recent move from Southampton to Saugerties. “My husband and I love the mix of wild and rural landscape. As newcomers, we really appreciate the warm welcome by neighbors and local businesses.”

Although relatively new to the area, Amanda is no amateur when it comes to servicing clients and customers. She spent a major part of her career in account management at Ogilvy & Mather and Young & Rubicam, delivering multi-layered marketing programs for clients such as American Express, Kimberly-Clark, Citicorp, TWA, AT&T and the American Red Cross. Moving to the corporate side, Amanda developed and led the in-house agency for Merrill Lynch for ten years, creating sales materials for Merrill's 200 products and services.

In 1997, Amanda and her husband made their Southampton vacation home their permanent residence. Through her small business, Amanda continued as a marketing consultant, writer and account manager for Merrill Lynch, Alliance Capital, Bank of Boston and Capital Advisors, among others.

“My years in account management and financial markets helped me hone essential customer skills: listening, legwork and delivering the goods,” Amanda believes. “Real estate offers the same need and opportunity for those client skills. I understand how wrenching it can be to sell a home you love, and how important it is to find a place you can call home. It's my goal to make the sale less traumatic, and the search less frustrating.”

Hobbies and Community Involvement: In addition to her marketing work, Amanda works with Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue to find homes for abandoned dogs. She and a co-chair created and launched an annual event on Long Island, Paws for Fall: the Basset Hound Olympics. An avid quilter, Amanda has won awards for her work. She also chaired or co-chaired seven annual quilt shows, raising money for scholarships and historic restorations. Realizing that her Basset Hound, Brie, looked fetching in a chapeau, in 2004 Amanda launched Giggle Garb, an online boutique offering pet clothing and accessories, with a portion of proceeds helping support Basset Hound rescue. Amanda and her husband live in Saugerties with their current gaggle of 5 Basset Hounds, a Beagle and a Yorkie.
